-Not less than eighteen years
of age
-Physically able and have the aptitude to perform the trade
-Six months work experience
-Valid drivers’ license
-Must be willing to travel offsite occasionally for periods of
one or two weeks to attend apprenticeship classes
-Ability to work as a member of a team
-Ability to follow written and oral instructions
-Must provide own transportation to and from classes as well as
jobsite
Note: All apprentices will be
required to pass a pre-employment drug test and employment physical.

The Virginia / North Carolina Laborers Apprenticeship
program is designed to achieve journey workers status within:
4000 hours of diversified Labor work and:
400 hours of related classroom instruction

-Concrete Practices and Procedures
40 hours
-Mason Tending 40 hours
-Scaffold Erection 40 hours
-General Construction (Demolition) 40 hours
-Asbestos Abatement 40 hours
-Safety Week 40 hours
-Hazwoper Initial 45 hours
-Pipelaying Practices and Procedures 40 hours
-Blueprint Reading 24 hours
-Pipe Fusion 8 hours
-Equipment Ops: Skid-steer loader, Rough Terrain Forklift 40 hours

Apprentices will be
paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages consistent with
skills and knowledge required. The rate for each period of Apprenticeship
is expressed as a percentage of Labor Journey worker rate. Wages
for Apprentices will be no less than $9.50 per hour.
Journey Worker wages vary depending on the specific job. Generally
the range for journey workers in Virginia and North Carolina is
$11 to $14 plus benefits (i.e. pension, health & welfare.)
The National Apprenticeship standards
were developed by the Laborers’ AGC, with the sanction of
its sponsoring organizations, the Laborers International Union
of North America (LIUNA), and the Associated General Contractors
of America (AGC). On July 6, 1994 the U.S. Department of Labor,
Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT) approved Laborers-AGC
Education and Training Funds (Laborers-AGC) National Apprenticeship
Standards for the Construction Craft Laborer occupation.
